The top seed in the SEC women’s basketball tournament 2025 came down to a coin toss. Both the Texas Longhorns (29-2) and the South Carolina Gamecocks (27-3) ended the regular season as co-champions with a 15-1 record in SEC play. They split their meetings during the season. As a result, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey flipped a coin and chose South Carolina. This means that the Gamecocks earn the No. 1 seed for the fourth straight year.
Head coach Dawn Staley praised the conference in a post-game interview. She said winning another regular-season championship means a great deal. She also noted, “Much respect to our conference. The Southeastern Conference is the best conference in the country.”
South Carolina has dominated the SEC tournament recently, winning it four out of the last five years. Moreover, the SEC as a whole has claimed the NCAA Tournament title in the past three years (South Carolina in 2024, LSU in 2023, and South Carolina in 2022).
